Sometimes MCC will have an announced position on an issue and sometimes it will not, but will still follow the issue. In some cases individual board members listed as a contact for an issue will have a personal view about it and we will indicate that clearly here. Dear Members of the Interbay Community –
Thank you for your interest in the proposed City-sanctioned tent encampments on a City-owned property in Interbay. You have either attended a community meeting or written in to the Mayor’s Office about this particular site. Recently, additional concerns about possible contamination on this site were raised and we wanted to follow up with some additional information for you.
Because we want to ensure the safety of those who may be living on this property for a limited period of time, the Mayor directed Human Services to contract for testing of the air at the Interbay site to determine if the chlorinated solvents and petroleum hydrocarbons potentially present in the soil underneath the asphalt are volatizing into the air. This week, we received the report that indicates no potential health hazards were found as these chemicals were all below detection limits:
Based on the sampling results, chlorinated solvents, TPHs (total petroleum hydrocarbons) and heavy oil identified in the Phase II report were not volatilizing into air in quantities above their respective laboratory limits of detection or above applicable state occupational exposure limits.
Next Monday evening, the proposed operators of the Interbay encampment, will be holding a community meeting to take questions and share information about how they operate organized encampments. Meetings details are below and additional information is in the attached flyer.
